Directions to Penn State, IST, the Westgate building, and my office.

The Pennsylvania State University is located in State College, Pennsylvania which is directly in the center of the state of Pennsylvania. To fly, the State College airport is called University Park Airport (airport code SCE) and is less than a one mile drive from the university (a cab ride cost about $15, some hotels have free shuttles). University Park Airport currently has direct flights from Washington Dulles, Philadelphia, and Detroit airports. However, State College is approximately a four hour scenic drive from the airports at Newark, Philadelphia, Washington, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh. Recommended hotels within walking distance of the Westgate building are the Nittany Lion Inn (my favorite), Atherton Hotel, and Days Inn. There are several other hotels within a two mile radius. Here is a list of restaurants I enjoy.

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is in the Westgate Bldg. For those driving or walking, a printable campus map and IST's directions are available.
IST's directions page has a useful map of building entrances and the Atherton parking entrance. Note that the Westgate building spans N. Atherton St. (Rt 322 business) and serves as a bridge connecting east and west campus. It is accessible on either side, from the corner of Burrowes St. and Pollock Rd. and from White Course Dr. just off of N. Atherton St. (US 322).

For parking, White Course Drive turns west off of N. Atherton just north of the Westgate Bldg and has the closest parking - right next to the building. Currently, Bing maps gives the best location (there are two White Course Drives that are not connected; only use the one accessible from N. Atherton). Access to the White Course Dr. parking lot is controlled by a guard gate Monday  to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. However, a day ticket can be bought for the entire red lot for $6 and there seems to be always space in other lots a short distance away. Park in the lot immediately to your left and closest to Atherton and the Westgate Bldg if possible. Other long term paid parking is available at the Nittany Parking Deck two blocks away.

The Westgate building is unusual in its design since as a bridge it connects east and west campus.  Faculty offices are on the 1st and 3rd floors with IST offices on the east campus side and Computer Science and Engineering offices on the west. The first floor on either side is not connected and the second floor is separated by the bridge pathway. My office, E350, is on the third floor at the northeast corner of the building.
