Directions to the Penn State, the IST building and my office.
How to get to the
Pennsylvania State University? Briefly, Penn State is located in State
College, Pennsylvania which is directly in the center of the state
of Pennsylvania. For flying, the State College airport is called University Park Airport
(airport code SCE) and is less than a one mile drive from the
university (a cab ride will be about $15). University Park Airport
currently has
direct flights from Washington Dulles, Philadelphia, and Detroit
airports. However, State College is about a four hour scenic drive from
the airports at Newark, Philadelphia, Washington, Baltimore, and
Pittsburgh. Recommended hotels within walking distance of the IST
building are the Nittany Lion
Inn (my favorite), Atherton
Hotel, and Days
Inn. There are several other hotels within a two mile radius. Here
is a list of restaurants
I enjoy. For those driving or walking, a printable campus map and IST's directions are available. IST's directions page has a useful map of building entrances and the Atherton parking entrance. Note that the IST building spans N. Atherton St. (Rt 322 business) and serves as a bridge connecting east and west campus. It is accessible on either side, from the corner of Burrowes St. and Pollock Rd. and from White Course Dr.
Access to the White Course Dr. parking lot is controlled by a guard gate Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Metered time and limited space parking is available. Long term paid parking is available at the Nittany Parking Deck two blocks away.
The IST building is unusual in its design since as a bridge it connects east and west campus. Faculty offices are on the 1st and 3rd floors with IST offices on the east campus side and Computer Science and Engineering offices on the west. The first floors on either side are not connected and the second floor is separated by the bridge pathway. My office, 311A IST, is on the third floor at the northeast corner of the building.
