Directions to Penn State, IST, the Westgate building, and my
office.
The Pennsylvania State
University is located in State
College,
Pennsylvania which is directly in the center of the
state of Pennsylvania. The State College airport is called the
University Park
Airport (airport code SCE) and is less than a one mile
drive from the university. University Park Airport currently
has direct flights from Washington Dulles, Philadelphia,
Chicago, and Detroit airports. However, State College is
approximately a four hour or less scenic drive from the
airports at Newark, Philadelphia, Washington, Baltimore, and
Pittsburgh. Recommended hotels within walking distance of the
Westgate building are the Nittany
Lion Inn (my favorite), Atherton Hotel, new
Hyatt,
and Days
Inn. There are several other hotels within a two mile
radius. Here is a list of restaurants
I enjoy. The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is in the Westgate building and the Steam Service building. For those driving or walking, a printable campus map and IST's directions are available. IST's directions page has a useful map of building entrances and the Atherton parking entrance. Note that the Westgate building spans N. Atherton St. (Rt 322 business) and serves as a bridge connecting east and west campus. It is accessible on either side, from the corner of Burrowes St. and Pollock Rd. and from White Course Dr. just off of N. Atherton St. (US 322).
For being dropped off, White Course Drive turns west off of N. Atherton just north of the Westgate Bldg. There is a new parking garage at the end of White Course Drive. Note there are two White Course Drives that are not connected; only use the one accessible from N. Atherton.
The Westgate building is unusual in its design since it also acts as a bridge that connects pedestrian traffic between east and west campus. Faculty offices are on the 1st and 3rd floors with IST offices on the east campus side and Computer Science and Engineering offices on the west. The first floor on either side is not connected and the second floor is separated by the bridge pathway. My office, E350, is on the third floor at the northeast corner of the building.
Some IST faculty are not in the Westgate building, but in the Steam Service building.
